Provider-Directed Monitoring

Testing guided by clinical need.

Mental health questionnaires may be requested as part of initial and ongoing care. Laboratory or other diagnostic testing may be recommended when clinically indicated based on symptoms, medical history, medications, or treatment needs.

Diagnostic & Clinical Monitoring is provider-directed and supports treatment planning and medication safety. It is distinct from Diagnostic & Psychological Assessment, which is a separate clinical service. North Andover Behavioral Health may coordinate with outside diagnostic providers or offer certain monitoring services within the practice as they become available.

GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing: When clinically appropriate, NABH medication management providers partner with GeneSight to offer pharmacogenomic testing. GeneSight analyzes certain genetic variations that may provide additional information to help inform medication selection and treatment decisions. Results do not diagnose a mental health condition or identify which medication will work best and should be interpreted together with your provider in the context of your full clinical picture.

Testing recommendations are individualized. Not every patient will require every service described on this page.

In-Office Monitoring

In-Office ECG Monitoring

An ECG, or electrocardiogram, is a test that records the electrical activity of the heart. It can help identify irregularities in heart rhythm, rate, and electrical conduction.

Early detection of ECG abnormalities may offer a simple way to identify patients who could be at increased cardiovascular risk, particularly when certain psychiatric medications are being considered or monitored.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging — MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems allow medical professionals to view internal structures of the body with a high level of clarity.

MRI technology uses magnetic fields and radio waves to help providers evaluate areas of the body and identify certain conditions that may not be assessed as accurately through other imaging methods.

Your provider will determine whether laboratory testing, cardiac monitoring, or imaging is appropriate based on your health history, medication, symptoms, and treatment needs.

Complete Testing

You will receive instructions regarding where the test should be completed, whether preparation is required, and how results will be shared with the practice.

Results & Follow-Up

Your provider will review available results, discuss any relevant findings, and determine whether treatment changes or additional follow-up are needed.

Safety & Monitoring

Testing supports clinical decision-making.

Testing does not replace ongoing appointments or communication with your provider. Results must be interpreted in the context of your full medical and mental health history. Current patients should use the athenahealth Patient Portal for clinical communication with their provider about an order, result, or monitoring requirement.
